Happiness Defined

What matters the most in life? Most of us will agree that the answer to this question is "how happy you are". We all have our own way of defining happiness. Recently one of my friends shared with me about various happiness formulas. He had his own formula as well. After going through his happiness formula I liked the way he visualises life and the way he extracts pleasure from life.

This is what he says on happiness:

“Happiness is the ability to rise above the immediacy of pain, to be able to realize that the bad situations are transient and there is no need to worry about this, it is about remaining happy without trying to be; i.e., happiness is spontaneous.

Happiness = Sense of Contribution X Understanding of Life X Continuous Learning and self improvement

Sense of contribution improves ones self-image making him happy. It creates self-respect and inner confidence. Understanding the subtle dimension of life helps to maintain balance in life. It avoids unwanted stress. Continuous learning and growth is necessary for happiness as it broadens the thought process and helps to accept and approve the ups and downs of life in a constantly changing society”.
